Saw an Anglian Son

Muddy, gullied fools of land,
drawn to the lowest
and flattest ground,

leading to prophetic cliffs
stumbling with stymied force
toward the sea.

A crown passed
from hand to hand,
tide to tide.

Now performed atop
its most resolute lord,

come about through
the unceremonious
earthly coronation
of cold dirt.

Lost

tarnished jewel
of the East Lands,

a measured curve of gold,

once the first gold
to feel the warmth
of sunrise.
